First Ngutukākā Planted at Maungaroa Marae

In October of 2023, thanks to the help of rangatahi from Te Kura o Te Whānau ā Apanui, locals and kaimahi from the Raukūmara Pae Maunga Project, the first ngutukākā were planted at Maungaroa Marae. These were the first ngutukākā to be planted in Te Whānau-a-Apanui and it was a very significant day for us all.

"I'm really humbled and grateful that we were gifted these beautiful ngutukākā from Tairawhiti Ngutukākā Trust," says Rangitahi Wharepapa of Maungaroa Marae, "mainly because they're the first ones in Te Whānau a Apanui to be planted from the Trust, but also because they're the first ones to be planted on this marae."
